A writer studying how to write
The problem with being a writer studying how to write is that you get to write, but you're still not quite at the point that you can write whatever you want, whenever you want. Case in point today was one of those gorgeous overcast days with electric air just brimming with possibilities. Ideas began bubbling up like a new spring ready to mold to a new channel. I just had to set it free, but then I remembered I have essays due. Specifically critical essays comparing ideas and conveying why they're important, which is very good, but it wasn't what I wanted to write about. Now there are those lucky few writers who can juggle both, splurging on ideas and getting them out there, while churning out critical essays that get fantastic grades. I am not one of those people. I am easily distracted, much like the hummingbird I saw today that was barely bigger than the small white flower it was extracting nectar from. Even now I'm supposed to be working on a two page essay explaining in depth a passage from a book we're reading, which sounds simple enough, but not when you want to listen to music and write your own ideas. I need better discipline and a warmer room or I need to start cutting myself off from the joys of solitude and go sit with the other people enslaved to their computers as they train to be eligible to do fieldwork. Hmm, I want to watch a movie. That right there is my problem. So easily distracted. It's so terrible. Le sigh, back to the drawing board or I could watch anime, no definitely the drawing board.
